The problem:
The I.T. department at ABC is continually challenged to find ways to do more with less, utilizing technology to bring costs down. EDI was a requirement to do business with the majority of their clients and ABC Logistics soon found its EDI requirements growing faster than its staff could accommodate. Hiring more employees was not a solution that would be favored. The I.T. Director searched for an outsourced EDI service that would complement the existing team and alleviate the growing pains it was experiencing. After a few phone calls, the I.T. The solution:
The ESM team held initial phone conferences with ABC Logistics to determine the items that needed immediate attention and to define the long term scope of the partnership. By avoiding the on-site meetings required by typical consultants, the process moved ahead quickly, keeping costs to a minimum. The first step was to tackle re-mapping of all EDI maps to work with a new database system that ABC was in process of implementing. As a long term goal, ESM developed a plan to transition the EDI program into a development environment that would allow for change to be more easily made without making changes to maps or code.
The remote EDI solution at work:
Just one month into the outsourced EDI project and ESM operates as it has always been a part of the ABC Logistics EDI team. The modified EDI maps were delivered ahead of schedule and current work is underway with testing the new integration system. Four new trading partners have successfully been added and full EDI communication has been enabled. According to the I.T.
